40 million Americans are now living in poverty.
That’s wrong.
Right?
Cycling for Change, a 5000 mile bicycle pilgrimage led by a Jesuit priest from Kansas City, is a call to action for all people of goodwill to address the growth of poverty in America. Communities along the route will be encouraged to highlight local poverty issues, to raise funds to benefit local poverty-reducing programs and to invite governments, social service agencies, businesses and concerned citizens to work together to develop strategic solutions to the national problem of poverty.
On the eve of its 2010 centennial, Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA), the largest network of social service organizations in the nation initiated a multi-faceted approach to reduce poverty in the United States. The CCUSA campaign stresses the need for businesses, faith-based organizations, government and individuals to come together to strategically address the systemic causes of poverty in this country.
